- What does your business do?
R. W. Miller, Jr. & Associates is a full-service human resource and management consulting firm. For small businesses and non-profits who are too small to afford an in-house HR department, we do it for them: employee handbooks, policies and procedures, affirmative action plans, recruiting, conflict resolution, strategic planning, terminations and exit interviews, I-9 audits, supervisor and customer service training, benefits analyis, focus groups, project management, you name it, we can do it. Anything a typical HR department can do for a large employer, we can do.

What do you like most about your business?
We like the variety: variety of clients and businesses, the variety of issues, the opportunity to help small employers improve. We help owners/managers focus on the core of their business while we handle the people side of things. It's helping business owners succeed.
- What is the biggest challenge in running your business?
To be honest, the biggest challenge is cash flow. Getting clients to pay on time so that WE can pay our vendors and make payroll. It's a constant struggle to keep other businesses paying those invoices within 30 days. We've tried a lot of incentives like discounts or penalties but it doesn't seem to matter. I can't imagine telling my bank that I have to pay my mortgage late due to cash flow issues and it's a real bother when customers do that to us. I'd love to hear how others handle this issue.
- What is your passion?
The business is a partnership between my husband and me. Without a doubt, human resources and this business is his passion. Although I find some segments of it very interesting, I wouldn't call it my passion. I'm still searching for mine.
- What do you appreciate the most about your experiences with NAWBO?
I like the comaraderie of being with other women who are always so smart and have such good ideas and are willing to share them. I've been in other women's groups, business and otherwise, but NAWBO has that touch of class that you don't find everywhere. The group maintains a level of professionalism that I like. I also like the programs. I always learn something, even if it's just a "nugget" of information. I've just joined the programs committee and look forward to becoming more involved.
